Ikkitousen No Tsurugi portrait

Kingdom: Ikkitousen No Tsurugi! is a slash-and-hack game based off of the manga and anime series, Kingdom. It was released on November 2nd, 2010, and was only released in Japan. The game was developed and distributed by Konami for the PlayStation Portable also known as PSP.

Gameplay[]

The game’s style bares a lot of similarity to the Dynasty Warrior franchise in terms of controls, attack combos, field items and winning conditions. The only thing that makes this game unique is the five-man squad combat system, in which a character can do combos with the other four members of their squad. When your character has gained enough power (from attacking, taking damage, or just charging it up by holding one of the two attack buttons) you can unleash the special attack that varies on the type of squad you are using. You are not the only player that can do this though, as some enemies can use special attacks.

There are two game modes in the game:

  1. Story Mode: Plays as Shin throughout the story. When finishing this mode, you will unlock Hard Mode that do not have many changes in story, just the enemies will be a lot stronger (Imagine Hard Mode Hou Ken in the Battle of Bayou).
  2. Alternative Mode: Create your own Squads with a main characters and level them up like RPG games. In this mode you can buy weapons, armor, accessories to each squad member, as well as unlocking most of the characters from the Hi Shin Unit. There are a lot of bonus chapters to play that will be summarize later.

Plot[]

In the game there are some changes in the story from the manga and anime.

Before each stage, some background information is provided, such as the story thus far, as well as map information.

The first stage is set in Kokuhi village, where Shin hacks and slashes his way through many thugs. Upon reaching the end, he finds a shack. He steps inside to reveal... Ei Sei, young king of Qin. Directly following entering the shack, an assassin attacks, aiming to kill Ei Sei. Shin steps in and fights the assassin after discovering the assassin killed his best friend Hyou, as Hyou was acting as a body double for the young king.

The second stage is set in the mountains as Shin, Sei, and Ten flee from Kokuhi village, where they are attacked by Muta, an assassin from the far south. Later Shou Bun Kun and Heki will arrive and Shin starts fighting as a squad for the first time.
