“ | Ahh, Actually, I guess there is an easier way of introducing myself to you. I'm the same as you and Ou Hon. A man aiming to be a Great General of the Heavens. | ” |
—To Shin and the Hi Shin Unit. |
Mou Ten is a General of the Qin Military and the leader of the Gaku Ka Army. He is also the heir of the famous Mou Family, the first-born son of Great General and First Great Mou Bu, grandson of the late Great General Mou Gou, and the older brother of the strategist Mou Ki.
Appearance[]
Mou Ten is often described as looking very feminine with his long bright brown hair, short and slender frame as well as his distinct lack of facial hair, he also has a small mole underneath his right cheek.
As pointed out by Shin, Mou Ten has virtually no resemblance to his father, Mou Bu. In Season 3 of the anime, his hair became a darker shade of brown to match his appearance in the manga.
Mou Ten wore a pink robe over his armor, golden vambraces on his forearms and carried a thin jian sword with him during his early years on the battlefield. At some point before the capture of Kokuyou, he began to wear a different robe of darker shade of pink with fur around his neck. After becoming a general he shortened his hair and added pauldrons, a choker and a cape to his attire. [2]
Personality[]
Mou Ten possesses a very friendly and outgoing personality as he is always lively and ready to joke about situations. At times, Mou Ten can seem quite carefree but this conceals a very cunning side of him which shows up whenever things get serious. He is not above using his father's and grandfather's influence to get what he wants. Unlike most nobles, Mou Ten doesn't make any distinction towards others.
Mou Ten cares very much for his family and displays a near-reckless abandonment as he attacked Ren Pa when he saw his grandfather injured by the vicious Great General and nearly died after protecting his father from Ka En's attack and being cut down by Kan Mei himself.
Relationships[]
Mou Gou[]
Mou Ten had a very loving relationship with his grandfather Mou Gou. Throughout Mou Ten's childhood he was always smiling and having fun with his grandfather. And this would carry on until Mou Gou's dying days, when he lamented on the fact that he could never reach the notoriety of the Six Great Generals but Mou Ten responded that Mou Gou was a bigger hero than all of them as he cried.
Mou Bu[]
Mou Ten cares deeply about his father but is usually uncomfortable with his father due his intensity. During the Battle of Kankoku Pass before the battle begun, he visited his father in order to make sure he had prepared a proper plan to fight against the large Chu Armies. When he noticed that Mou Bu is in danger he immediately rushed to protect his father and even risked his own life to do it.
Mou Ki[]
Ten loves his little brother and is protective of him and his feelings yet believes in his tactical strength and abilities enough to recommend him to the Hi Shin Unit.
Ko Zen[]
“ | Thanks for always watching out for me, Gramps. When I get kids, you'll be the first one to carry them in your arms. I love you, Gramps. | ” |
Ko Zen was Mou Ten's guardian, since early childhood and later became his adjutant. Mou Ten really cares deeply about him, even calling him "Gramps" and telling him he loves him.
Shou Hei Kun[]
Mou Ten studied strategy under his adoptive uncle Shou Hei Kun. His former teacher respects him greatly and acknowledge his talent.
Riku Sen[]
Ai Sen[]
Ou Hon[]
Having met him either before or during his grandfather's campaign on the state of Han, Mou Ten got to know his fellow 100-man commander through their mutual rivalry on various battlefields and later grew to respect Ou Hon's abilities as a commander, commenting on his powerful spearmanship during the Sanyou Campaign but found his personality and constant seriousness to be too rigid.
Ri Shin[]
Mou Ten considers Shin to be one of his closest friends both on and off the battlefield, as he sees him to be an interesting man and acts as the middleman in the quarrels between Shin and Ou Hon. Unlike Ou Hon, Mou Ten didn't look down nor dismiss Shin due to his background as a former servant. During their first encounter together, he would dismount from his horse to talk to Shin on an equal level and joke around with members of the Hi Shin Unit. Mou Ten became even more interested in Shin after being shocked by his unflinching resolve and straightforwardness in stopping the cruelty against the Wei citizens. Mou Ten would even use his influence to lighten Shin's punishment after he cut down Ran Dou and poked fun at Ou Hon regarding Shin's talent in the future.
Since then, the two of them became even closer especially after being promoted to 1000-Man Commanders, as they joke around with each other's new titles. Even after the campaign ended, they remained friends as Mou Ten helped guide Shin during the rewards ceremony and during the Hi Shin Unit's losing streak with him scolding Shin to take his new duties seriously. From time to time, he gives Shin advice about commanding and on occasions even helps him out.

Mou Ten is an excellent military leader, warrior, and tactician as it was stated by his late grandfather, Mou Gou that he is a prodigy even amongst the elite Mou Family. He received special recognition as a strategist from Shou Hei Kun himself.[3] The Chief of Military Affairs holds him in high regard and even admitted that he wasn't able to grasp the full scope of his talent.[4]
Physical Abilities[]
Master Swordsman: Mou Ten is a genius swordsman compared to his self-taught comrade Shin. His technique emphasizing versatility, precision, dexterous and quick reactions. And he also shows an uncanny reflex in deflecting finishing blows while launching pinpoint counterattacks. With his sword alone, Mou Ten has held his own against powerful opponents like Kou Yoku of the Thunder during the first day of the Coalition War and the monstrous Zhao general, Ba Nan Ji.[5][6]
- Parrying: Mou Ten demonstrates impressive abilities in parrying which has saved his life on multiple occasions. He was able to receive strikes from Kou Yoku during their fight which impressed the young Chu commander and years later during his clash with Zhao general Ba Nan Ji he parried his full power strike and used the momentum to destroy the berserker's exposed eye. And during the Battle of Gian, he was able to survive a strike from general Gaku Shou by slightly redirecting his podao although the attack still severely wounded him.[7]
Leadership[]
When seen leading from the forefront, Mou Ten demonstrated impressive skills in raising morale to the point where his unit's strength was able to match and clash with Rin Ko's elite veteran soldiers.[8] During the Battle at Shukai Plains, after the Qin left wing started to collapse due to Ma Kou's death, he was able to quickly take command over the remains of Ma Kou Army's command structure and save them from complete destruction. He created two rallying points and convinced the Ma Kou soldiers that their leader was still alive. After that, he committed all his resources to support his rallying points and push back the Zhao forces while avoiding a direct clash with Ba Tei. This tactic enabled him to revive half of the army and preserve their strength at the day's end. And after being temporarily elevated to the rank of General by Ou Sen, Mou Ten immediately gained the loyalty of the remaining Ma Kou commanders for the duration of the campaign due to his actions.
Tactical Abilities[]
Master Strategist: Mou Ten's brilliance in tactics was revealed during the Sanyou Campaign when he came up with the plan to kill Rin Ko while cooperating with Gyoku Hou Unit and Hi Shin Unit.[9] During the first clash of the day, he took on the most dangerous role and attacked the general's deadly veteran soldiers in order to focus the Wei's attention and open a path for the other two units. It was also noted that Mou Ten was the only one from the young commanders who was capable of completing this task. His ability in cooperatively tactic would only grow further. During the Battle of Kankoku Pass, he executed precision attack raids with the Gyoku Hou Unit to focus on the attacking Ka Rin Army's exposed back to give the Tou Army breathing room to reorganized and counter the Chu's onslaught after being temporarily promoted to the role of a 5000-Man Commander. This was done without any prior signal or verbal communication between the units. His strategical acuity was said to already be on par with Great Generals as he interfered with Ri Boku's plan to destroy the Qin Left Army on the first day of the Battle at Shukai Plains.[10][11] Without any explanation, he was able to see through general Ou Sen's attack plan and carry out his mission to lure out the Ki Sui Army. He showcased his knowledge in different approaches in combat while commanding the left wing where took he a "soft" approach that consisted of avoiding a direct clash with the Zhao and dance around them using hit and run maneuvers.[12]
Military Formations: Mou Ten is well versed in various military formations. During the Sanyou Campaign, he formed the Gaku Ka cavalry into a Wedge Formation and before the clash split them into five smaller groups to hit key targets within the Rin Ko Army. His ability to form formation has only grown over the years like when he cooperated with Hi Shin Unit to formed both of their forces into a Drill Formation to break through Ri Boku's trap.
Architecture Skills: Mou Ten is also said to be a top student in constructing defenses and fortifications, having more than twice better scores in classes then Ka Ryo Ten, and being able to finish the forts on Kokuyou Hills.[13]
Weaknesses[]
Mou Ten is a genius in both tactics and strategy and by no means weak when it comes to martial combat, but he lacks an explosive form of martial strength. It also evident that Mou Ten hasn't inherited his father or grandfather's inhuman superhuman strength as he relies on softer approaches when it comes to fighting or on his mastery of tactics. While this isn't usually a problem, he does face trouble when fighting against opponents that possess a higher strength level than him.
